Download Audacity with ASIO

Since Steinberg recently re-licensed ASIO as GPLv3, it is now possible to bundle it in open source programs, including Audacity. I thus have taken the liberty to distribute a version of Audacity 3.7.5 with ASIO support, which you can download from GitHub.

Available across various platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux, Audacity provides a versatile set of tools suitable for musicians, podcasters, sound designers, and anyone interested in audio production. With features like multi-track editing, a range of audio effects, and support for various file formats, Audacity empowers users to create professional-quality audio projects, making it a popular choice in the realm of digital audio workstations.

About ASIO

ASIO, or Audio Stream Input/Output, is a high-performance audio driver protocol designed to facilitate low-latency and high-fidelity sound processing in digital audio applications. Developed by Steinberg, ASIO allows software to communicate directly with audio hardware, bypassing the operating system’s audio layers, which can introduce latency. This direct path enables real-time audio playback and recording, making it especially useful for musicians, sound engineers, and professionals who require precise timing and high audio quality for tasks such as recording, mixing, and mastering. By providing a robust framework for audio input and output, ASIO enhances the performance of digital audio workstations (DAWs) and related software, ensuring users can achieve optimal results in their audio projects.
